Newb needs help with "all-around" build
Hello!
I've checked around the forums a bit, and haven't been able to find an answer to my questions, so I'll try here. My apologies if there's a thread that answers it simply that I missed.
I've re-installed GW (I have all three campaigns, and will be getting EotN soon) because the news on GW2 has me wanting to play again.
I never got past level 13, apparently, and not on a warrior. >.>
After re-reading some stuff on the various wikis, I've decided I want to play a warrior/something, but I'm not sure what.
My main concern is getting through storylines solo, as well as being able to do the various activities I will need to so I can unlock various Hall of Monuments items in preparation for GW2.
So... what would be a good class combination/skill build that would let me solo the various things I need to for HoM clearing? From what the FAQ here said, it looks like I should be a warrior/ranger, but I'm not versed enough in GW to really just put together a build. All of the builds I saw were farming a specific instance/mob/boss, and I'm not sure which, if any, would work for me.
Any help/links/etc. would be appreciated. Thank you!

Don’t stress too much on the secondary because you’ll eventually be able to change it whenever you’re in an outpost. Warriors are one of the most self-reliant professions anyway so even if you choose a useless one you’ll do fine simply by sticking to your Warrior skills. In fact, anything you can’t get out of your Warrior skill set you’ll eventually get out of PvE only skills or belong on your heroes, so you’ll end up pretty much never using it anyway.

What FAQ? Try the sticky. It’s got builds + a generic build template so even if you have no interest whatsoever in build making you can throw something reasonable together.
PS: Levels 1-19 are training levels. It would be dumb if Anet expected you to have a perfectly optimised build right from the start. Just put together something that seems reasonable (plenty of tips in the sticky if you really have no idea) and see how it goes. Build evolution is part of the fun. By all means post if/when you get stuck on specific areas. Also, to be honest, once you get your hero setup working you can steamroll though pretty much everything barring a few areas. The amount of powercreep that has occurred is ridiculous, so the main issue for getting HoM points is time.

Ahh, I meant the sticky in this forum, my apologies. Heh.
I'm level 4 now (woo!) and just got my second profession. I'm in Factions, because it's the one I remember the most, but should I just up and head to EotN, now that I have it?

Welcome back,
First of all Your saying that your read in a sticky that you need to be warrior/ranger to get into the Hall of Monuments. This is not true. All profession can enter the hall of monuments and has a good change to get the most out of it. Second of all, and more important. The Hall of Monuments-rewards in GW2 are account wide, meaning that if you get 3 titles on character a and 2 (different) titles on character b, you get the reward point for having 5 titles.
Depending on where in game you started you can bring your level 13 character to the hall of monuments (minimum required level is level 10). You need to be in the port town of one of the campaigns though and off course you need to have Eye of the North added to your account.
For factions: Kaineng center.
Getting there (if you started in factions): Do the primairy quests and missions on the island. After two mission you can book passage to the mainland. You end up in the market place. from there you need to run north to kaineng center (there is an enemy free path thats pretty straight forward, but if you have trouble finding it let me know and I'll show it). When entering you get a message where you can get the quest to go to the eye of the north. do this quest and the first follow up and you end up in your hall of monuments.
For prophecy's: Lion's arch.
Gettign there: follow the main mission line, lion's arch is 7 missions into the game. Here as well you'll get a message how to get the quest to go to eye of the north take the quest and also do the follow up quest and you'll find yourself in your hall of monuments
For Nightfall: Kamadan.
Getting there: if your lvl 13 just map travel there (it is unlocked at lvl2). You'll get a message (cause your above lvl10) how to get the quest to eye of the north. Take that quest and also do the follow up quest and you'll end up in your hall of monuments.

Thank you!
I should have been more specific - the sticky on the main forum for the HoM mentioned that "being a ranger at the starter (1st or 2nd profession) will help since you can tame a pet and level it to 20 while you do other stuff".
As for getting to the HoM, this is great info, thank you very much!
I'm level 5 now, so I'm slowly but surely getting there.
